The odd semester working days of my final year was over. This is the first time the odd semester went very fast to me. This semester left many unforgettable memories to me -> placement, classes in Z0, Opensolaris day, FStival’06, Cyber’06 , the lowest attendance in my college history, final year project review and etc. Third internals are starting from next week and semester exams will come after third internals. Its time to study for internals. It may give a short break for blogging. Anyway I will try to update it atleast once a week. Hmm… I have only one more semester in my college life ![]()
First half of my final year …
footie @ MC
After 4 years I played football in Madura College. There I met my school friends Karthikeyan, Dhivakar, Viswabharathy, Vishnu and Venkatesh. Also I added some new buddies Ram, Kamal, Kavin and Saravanan to my friends list. We created two teams among us and played from 7 to 9. After a small top I came back to home at 10AM. I am not a great player in football but my friends are good players and many of them are in their college football teams. Mainly I went to MC to meet my friends and share our experiences ![]()
Sillunu Oru Kadhal
This year FStival’06 helped me to meet all the people involved in first FStival, which introduced Free Software World to me. Except Balamurugan other seniors Joe, Sap, Stylesen and Ranjani came to this year FStival. After celebrating the SFD successfully, Joe and Ranjani returned back to chennai on that day night
While eating in Aarathy Drive Inn, we decided to go to ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’. At that time, the time was 10:10 PM. Then we went to theatre ‘Amirtham’ by an auto. We were late, so we missed the title song. From the beginning itself the story moved slowly. It was a mockai story about a couple who loved each other very much. When Surya was in Newyork, accidentally Jothika read the diary of Surya. Surya wrote about his love in that diary. Surya’s college life was somewhat ok to see but no logic, the same old cinema colleges. Boomika’s acting was good. Then, then … director pulled the story to make it as a 3hrs film. Baby shreya’s voice was so sweet. Santhanam and Vadivelu’s comedy was not good.
‘Avalukenna ambasamuthiram …’ and ‘Newyork nagaram’ were ok and ‘Munbae vaa …’ was really good. This film had some nice dialogues.

FStival’06
In Madurai, GLUGOT and GLUG-Madurai jointly celebrated the Software Freedom Day on last saturday. Students from various colleges and schools in and around Madurai participated in this Tech-Festival. Chief Guest for this year FStival was Mr.Kenneth Gonsalves,Associate, NRC-FOSS @ AU-KBC, Chennai. Chief Guest delivered a speech on the topic “How FLOSS makes you a great programmer”. After the tea break, the step by step Debian GNU/Linux installation was demonstrated. Then Amalan JoeSteeve, Founder of GLUGOT gave a short and smalltalk about FStival and handled the questions asked the audience. Audience’s hearts were stolen by Ubuntu DapperDrake’s 3D desktop demo. People were amazed to see the abundant free softwares in our boxes. Members of GLUGOT and GLUG-Madurai explained about the following free and opensource softwares: XGL, Emacs, Latex, Openoffice, GCC, CMS, LAMP, GIMP, Blender, Edubuntu, Scilab, XMMS and etc. Ashok explained the Free Software philosophy and Vinoth talked about GNU/Linux in industries and the opportunity in
industries for FLOSS users. Various distributions of GNU/Linux were burnt and given to people. The stalls were opened untill 5 PM. Second and third years did their job well. Press people from popular newspapers covered this day and published this news in their newspapers. Thanks to people who made this FStival a grand success. Special thanks to Joe, Arun Ponniah, Senthil and Ranjani for spending their precious time with us.

BeleniX in my Box
I tried the BeleniX LiveCD yesterday. I put the CD in my CD drive and it boots from BeleniX. A nice start, GRUB with a good splash image. After seeing the messages “Hostname: belenix, Done mounting LiveCD …”, I thought that I could see BeleniX in my system. But it hangs after displaying the menu “Please select your keyboard layout from list …”
